Description	:	Samuel Erwin, Jr. is the youngest child of Samuel Erwin (1767-1851) and Sarah Holmes (1771-1864). His parents came to Columbiana County, Ohio in 1801 and were one of the first settlers of Fairfield Township. He married Mary Heaton 26 Jan 1836 and together they had four children: Elizabeth (b.1837), Tryphena (b.1842), Clarkson (b.1847), and Edwin (b.1856). Samuel was a member of the Friends Society (Quaker) and very active in the Abolitionist Movement. Obituary from Salem Era, 17 Mar 1887: Died - Samuel Erwin, of Columbiana, well known throughout this section as business man and philanthropist, who has been identified with nearly every moral reform, passed away last Sabbath evening, aged 72 years. He was the son of Samuel and Sarah Erwin, who came to this county from Virginia in the year 1799, when all was in wilderness, settling on a tract of land in Fairfield township which has been known for over three-fourths of a century as the "Erwin farm," on which farm the deceased lived for many years. He married Mary Heaton, sister of Jacob Heaton and Mrs. Joshua J. Boone, of this place in the year 1836. They had four children, all of whom are living, highly respected, and are filling respectable positions in the business and social world. I know that the sons fought in the Civil War, when the house was built, added onto, and much more. It would be difficult to ignore the essence of this family.
