Description	:	EDEN - Samuel "Shorty" Eugene Chilton, 75, of 5224 NC 700, passed away Tuesday night, June 24, 2008 at Morehead Memorial Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 27, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow in Danview Cemetery. A Rockingham County native, Mr. Chilton was born Sept. 16, 1932 to the late Frank Taylor and Berryal Pruitt Chilton. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 27, at Fair Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow in Danview Cemetery. A Rockingham County native, Mr. Chilton was born Sept. 16, 1932 to the late Frank Taylor and Berryal Pruitt Chilton. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving on the USS Basilone and remained in contact with all of his former crewmembers until his death. He attended Meadow View Methodist Church. Mr. Chilton was retired from Fieldcrest Mills in the blanket division. Surviving are his daughters, Tammy Renee Ellington and husband, Elwood, and Jennifer Lynn Harmon and husband, Mark, both of Eden; two grandchildren, Ethan Eugene Ellington and Jenna Renay Harmon; and loving dog and best friend, Sandy. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Estes Chilton; brother, John Chilton; and sister, Maxine Thompson. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. at Fair Funeral Home and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Morehead Memorial Hospital Foundation, 117 E. Kings Hwy., Eden, N.C. 27288, to benefit the Smith McMichael Cancer Center and the Wound Healing Center.
