In 1857 he came with his parents to Iowa, residing in Iowa City. February 8, 1873 he was married to Isabelle Lindamood of Iowa City. Two years later they moved to Iowa County. Three children were given them: a son, William Rex, who dies in infancy when but four months old, and two daughters, Mrs. Hilda Watkinson of Eddyville, NE., and Mrs. Willard Coates of Victor. Mr. Farrell was a life-long farmer, following that occupation until four years ago, when he retired to Victor. He was a splendid neighbor, and being such, he won many people to a close friendship. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. He is the first of a family of six children to pass away. Thus, he leaves to miss him, two brothers: William Farrell of South Dakota, and John Farrell of Della, KS.; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Brown of Norway, Mrs. Johanna brown of Ocheyeday, IA., Mrs. Emma Willhite of Rockwell, IA., his wife and two daughters and a host of friends. His sickness was short and severe but not a murmur of complaint was heard. Tuesday night, December 14, at the age of 65 years and 9 months, he passed away, peacefully and calmly and with folded hands. The funeral service was held at the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. J. F. Rex.
