Mr. Zent was the first agent for the company at Roanoke, his term of service dating from the time the road was opened for business up to a few years ago, when he retired on account of failing health. His daughter, Miss Alice Zent, succeeded Mr. Zent as agent at Roanoke and is still holding that office. The funeral will probably take place next Monday, though arrangements have not yet been made. Mr. Zent was one of the very oldest men in the employ of the company at the time of his retirement, both as to age and term of service. -----------------------------------------------------------Fort Wayne News (Fort Wayne, Indiana) November 6, 1899 Samuel Zent, the pioneer agent of the Wabash at Roanoke, died Saturday. He was appointed agent there when the road was first built and served until age obligated his retirement. His daughter is now the station agent at that point. Zent, the old Wabash agent at Roanoke, who died last Saturday, as stated in the Sentinel on that date, will be buried tomorrow afternoon, the obsequies being conducted by the Odd Fellows, of which order the deceased was long a member. The services will be held in the United Brethren church at 1:30 o'clock. A number of Fort Wayne people, some of whom had known Mr. Zent for nearly a half century, will go to Roanoke to attend the funeral. -----------------------------------------------------------Logansport Pharos-Tribune (Logansport, Indiana) November 8, 1899 Samuel Zent, the first ticket agent the Wabash railway ever had at Roanoke, died last week. He entered service in the early part of 1856, when the road first opened for passenger and freight traffic, and continued until a few years ago, his daughter succeeding him. -----------------------------------------------------------Logansport Reporter (Logansport, Indiana) November 9, 1899 Oldest in Service. Wabash, Ind., Nov. 9.--Intelligence reached here of the death of Samuel Zent, for almost a half century agent of the Wabash railroad at Roanoke. He began work as agent there in the early '50s and continued to fill the position acceptably until a few years ago, when he resigned and his daughter, Miss Alice, was given the place. Mr. Zent was 72 years old, and, it is claimed, was the oldest man in consecutive years of service on the entire Wabash railroad system. -----------------------------------------------------------Logansport Journal (Logansport, Indiana) November 10, 1899 Samuel Zent, the oldest man in continuous service on the Wabash lines, was buried on Saturday at Roanoke, Ind. In 1854 he was appointed agent of the company at that point, and held the position until four years ago, when Miss Alice Zent, his daughter, took his place, his old age making him incapable to perform the duties required.
