During his four years of military service, his record shows 12,000 of marching. He had the distinction of being with Sherman during the entire Civil War, which climaxed with "Sherman's March to the Sea," in the Army of Tennessee. Samuel Harader, 90, Who Marched to Sea With Sherman, is Laid To Rest Funeral services were held in The Church of the Brethren at Delta Sunday for Samuel Harader, one of the few remaining Civil War Veterans who marched with Sherman to the sea. Mr. Harader died Thursday, aged 90, at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Clinton Van Dyke. Burial took place in Poplar Ridge cemetery. Enlisting when 21 years old in the 4th Iowa Infantry, Mr. Harader served two years, He reenlisted in 1863 and served until the end of the war in 1865. He was with Sherman the entire four years and marched 12,000 miles. Returning from the Army he married Ann Elizabeth Dawson. For several years they lived in the west, later coming to Ohio and residing in Defiance county for several years. Mrs Harader died in 1906, at the home of a son Mark Harader, Jewell. Since then, Mr Harader lived part of the time with a daughter, Mrs Herman Peters and part of the time alone. He was of a generous disposition, living to help his friends and children, and had a firm faith in God. He leaves three children, Willliam, Fort Wayne; Mark, Defiance; and Mrs Herman Peters, Delta; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
