Description	:	S. H. Cook, a highly respected resident of this city, passed away at an early hour Tuesday morning, June 23, 1914, after an illness of many weeks. Mr. Cook was born in Galion, Ohio, May 27, 1838. In the town of his birth he received his early education. In 1855 he came to Iowa, where he tilled the soil until 1861, when he responded to the country's call for men. He volunteered his services and enlisted in Co. H, Iowa Infantry, in the month of April. Cook, a highly respected resident of this city, passed away at an early hour Tuesday morning, June 23, 1914, after an illness of many weeks. Mr. Cook was born in Galion, Ohio, May 27, 1838. In the town of his birth he received his early education. In 1855 he came to Iowa, where he tilled the soil until 1861, when he responded to the country's call for men. He volunteered his services and enlisted in Co. H, Iowa Infantry, in the month of April. He engaged in many battles and was with Sherman on his march to the sea. A few years after the war he returned to his native home (Wadena, Fayette Co. Iowa)and after a visit there went to Orangeville, Ohio, where he took as his wife Mattie Rutledge, who has been a very happy and congenial helpmate. After their marriage they took up farm life near Andrew, Iowa. Several years ago Mr. and Mrs. Cook retired from active farm life and took up their residence in the Fourth ward in a very comfortable home which they purchased. They were the parents of three children, Jay, married and located at Sioux City, Dale, a student of the State University, and Miss Florence, a teacher, at home. Mr. Cook was a deacon in the Baptist church and was a man who commanded great respect, and the death of such a man as Mr. Cook is surely a great loss to this community.
