Read More	Samuel Cockeram was born January 1, 1846, at Horsley Woodhouse, Derbyshire, England, and died at his home in Fairmont, Saturday morning, March 9th, 1918, aged 72 years, 2 months and 9 days. Mr. Cockeram was married to Miss Ann Meakin of Derby, England, April 26th, 1868. They had planned to celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary next month. Mr. Cockeram came to America in the fall of 1887, stopping in Boston until 1888, when he came to Fairmont as an engineer for the Burlington railway. In the fall of 1888 his family came from England and joined him here, where they have since made their home. Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Cockeram, all surviving but one, Samuel Isaac, who died April 4, 1889. They are : Mrs. Lucy Jane Pike, Nottingham, England, Herbert Henry and Kate Agnes of Fairmont, Arthur William of Wymore, Nebraska and Mrs. Flora Richardson of Sheridan, Wyoming. All were present at the funeral except the daughter, Lucy Jane. There are eight living grandchildren. Mr. Cockeram had been a railway engineer for more than thirty-five years, and had been employed with the Burlington since 1888. For several years past, he has bee foreman of the roundhouse at this place. A week ago last Friday, while engaged in his duties there, he fell into the engine pit and was severely injured, but did not take to his bed until Sunday, after which his case was complicated by an attack of pneumonia. Mr. Cockeram was raised to the degree of a master mason in Fairmont lodge No. 48, July 25th, 1891. He was reared in the Wesleyan Methodist church of England. Mr. Cockeram leaves many friends who will miss his kindly acts. He was ever ready and willing to help any and all who were in need. The funeral was held from the house Monday at 2 p.m. under the auspices of the Masonic fraternity. Rev. J.P. Yost of the Methodist church delivered the sermon. Interment was made in the Fairmont cemetery. Business houses closed during the funeral hour.
