He was born July 30, 1892, Iva, Anderson Co. S.C. and died November 20, 1939, Anderson, Anderson Co. S.C. He married Ola Gilreth on January 09, 1916, Anderson, Anderson Co. S.C. She was born April 30, 1897 in North Carolina and died February 25, 1984. Children of Samuel Jackson (Sam) Burdette and Ola Gilreth are: Sammie Milton, Willie Lee, Theo, Leo, Henry Jackson, Harold James, and Zoah Lorees Burdette, Anderson Independent, November 21, 1939; Sam J. Burdette, life long resident of Anderson County, died at his home on Gossett Street yesterday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock following an illness of several months duration. Mr. Burdette was a textile operator by occupation, was 47 years old and held esteem by a wide circle of relatives and friends who deplore his passing. He was born and reared in the lower part of Anderson County, a son of Sam Burdette and Nannie Burton Burdette and come to make his home in Anderson a number of years ago. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church and also of the American Legion. Surviving him in addition to his widow, Mrs. Ola Gilbreth Burdette are six sons and one daughter, Sammie, Willie, Leo, Theo, Henry and Horace Burdette all of Anderson and Zoie Burdette also of Anderson; one sister Mrs. Susie Blanchett of Anderson County also Survives. Funeral services will be held from the Riverside Baptist Church at 3:30 o'clock with the Rev. W. A. Tinsley. Pastor conducting the service, Internment will be in the Selver Brook Cemetery; Pallbearers, Dewey Burdette, Morgan Burdette, Ramoth Burdette, Cliff Burdette, Clarence Burdette, and Johnny Self. The family will remain at the residence, 602 Gossett Street, until the hour of the final rites. The McDougal-Johnston Funeral Home in charge.
