Samuel Carty, an ex Union soldier and pensioner, was found dead at his home, 620 George st., at 7 o'clock Tuesday morning He was lying on some bed clothes on the floor in the front room stiff and cold. His face was discolored and to all appearances he had been dead several hours. Dr. W. B. Morrison, was summed and made an examination of the remains. He gave as his opinion death was produced by heart failure super induced by alcoholism. Carty and his wife lived alone. He stated Monday morning that he intended going to Burner's Ferry to be examined for an increase of pension. He was taken home about 11 o'clock at night, in a cab accompanied by two young men, who carried him into the room and made a bed for him on the floor.He was unable to talk. His wife did not know that he was dead until morning. When Mrs. Bingham went to the house in morning she had occasion to enter the room and found Carty dead Dr. Morrison said he had been dead for some time. It is supposed that he died soon after being placed on the floor. His wife said that he bad heart trouble. Constable Rowland and Lieut Alexander visited the house and later Justice Hoffman arrived and made an investigation of the death. Carty was born at Frederick and came here about 8 years ago. He was employed in the quarry along the C. V His age was 64 years He enlisted in Company I, 7th Md Infantry during the Civil War and served three years taking part in engagements at Williamsport and other places. He was honorably discharged June 29, 1865. He was a member of Reno Post. He is survived by his wife and these children: Mrs Samuel Schamel,Brunswick; Mrs Mollie Kendal, Middleburg; Samuel, Cearfoss Mrs. Florence Riley, Severn, Md ; Mrs Annie Golden, this city; Israel, in the Philippines. Four children are dead His sisters are: Mrs.Mary Schamel,St James; Mrs. Elanor Taylor, Frederick; Mrs. Susan Charlton Iowa. A son of Mr. Carty was killed on the Fairground some years ago by a pole, which supported a balloon, falling upon him. Cabman W. H. Boward said he was engaged by two young men to haul Carty home and was drunk at the time. Dr. Morrison reported later to Justice Hoffman the above mentioned cause of death Inquest not necessary.
