Description	:	Samuel Leedy iii was born 8-5-1804 at New Hope, Augusta Co., VA, the 1st of 13 children to Samuel Leedy ii and Barbara (Garber) Leedy. He was raised a farmer and later became a carpenter. He married 1st 10-21-1824 at New Hope, Augusta Co., VA to Rebecca (Crumbaker) Leedy born 3-21-1805 in Shenandoah Co., VA, the daughter of Rev. Peter and Sarah Crumbaker. Samuel and Rebecca raised 5 of their 9 children in Augusta Co., VA. The family left VA and came to Preble Co., OH about 1833 where he reportedly built a log cabin which was later replaced by a house... Samuel and Rebecca raised 5 of their 9 children in Augusta Co., VA. The family left VA and came to Preble Co., OH about 1833 where he reportedly built a log cabin which was later replaced by a house of hewed wood. Rebecca (Crumbaker) Leedy died in Preble Co., OH from complications during child birth. Samuel Leedy married 2nd 12-26-1839 in Darke Co., OH to Elizabeth (Blocher) Leedy by Rev. Emanuel Flory. Samuel and Elizabeth were the parents of 4 children prior to his death. Samuel and Elizabeth Leedy moved to Lagro Twp., Wabash Co., IN about 1839 where he remained until his death. Samuel Leedy was a member of the Brethren Church. He was a democrat. He was reportedly of average height, heavy set and wore a beard without a mustache.
