Description	:	THE LATE SAMUEL LOGSDON. Samuel Logsdon, son of Rev. William and Suzannah Logsdon, was born near Millersburg in Holmes county, Ohio, January 18, 1854. He departed this life July 11, 1923, at his home near Martland, Neb., at the age of 69 years, 5 months and 23 days. He spent his childhood days and early manhood in his native state, receiving his education in the common school near his home, also the high school at Mt. He departed this life July 11, 1923, at his home near Martland, Neb., at the age of 69 years, 5 months and 23 days. He spent his childhood days and early manhood in his native state, receiving his education in the common school near his home, also the high school at Mt. Vernon, Ohio, and the normal academy at Millersburg. He taught school in his native state and also in Fillmore county. On November 5, 1878, he was married to Mary S. Steele, also of Holmes county, Ohio. In February of the following year they came to Fillmore county and entered the land where they have continued to reside. To this union were born four daughters, Mrs. John Merryman, Mrs. Fred Fitch, Mrs. Harry Johnson, and Mrs. Wallace Chesnut. His wife preceded him in death five years. He was one of the pioneer settlers of Fillmore county and endured the hardships of the new country. He held various local offices, served as county commissioner and in 1906 was elected a member of the state legislature, serving during the years of 1907 and 1908. In early life he was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Shickley, where he remained a consistent member until he was called to his reward beyond. He was a member of the Masonic lodge of Geneva and the Modern Woodmen of America of the Martland camp. Besides his daughters, he leaves to mourn his death, three brothers and one sister, Albert, Elijah, John, and Mrs. James Ogg; also eight grandchildren and a host of friends. He was a loving husband and father and was ever considerate of his family's welfare. Mr. Logston died from an attack of heart failure. He had been driving a binder in his wheat field. He had evidently felt ill, and gotten off the binder to sit down in the shade of the horses. The horses, being restless, had moved somewhat and a few minutes later when George Hillgren came up it was thought that Mr. Logsdon had been thrown from the binder and been injured in some manner by the horses or by the machine. Dr. Delfs of Shickley was called and he pronounced death due to heart failure, perhaps induced by the extreme heat. The funeral was held at the Methodist church in Geneva at 3 p.m. Sunday July 15, and was conducted by Rev. R.H. Thompson. The church was crowded by friends and neighbors of the deceased, and not all who came could find a seat. Interment was to the Geneva cemetery.
