Tipton Conservative, December 19, 1917 FOY-Samuel P. Foy was born in Belmont county, Ohio, Jan. 10th, 1838, and came to this county with his parents in infancy when only 4 months old. They located near the old stone mill and made a claim there, and were among the early settlers. Samuel went to California in 1851 and was there five years, returning in 1856. At the outbreak of the Civil War he enlisted in Company B, 24th Iowa Infantry; he was discharged for physical disability, but after recovering his health, he re-enlisted in Co. I. 46th Regiment Iowa Infantry, and served until his regiment was discharged. On Sept. 11, 1866, he was married to Eunice F. Star. To this union were born four children, Mrs. A. Mabel Rickard of Romero, Tex.; Chas. H., of Tipton; Nellie, who died in infancy; and Frank S., of Santa Barbara, California. Mr. and Mrs. Foy celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Sept. 11, 1916. He passed away on Dec. 15th, 1917, his age being 79 years, 11 months and 5 days. He was a charter member of Wm. Beaver Post, G. A. R., and his membership in the Order of Odd Fellows dates from March, 1866. He leaves to mourn his departure his brother, David Foy, of York, Neb., his wife and three children, eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild, together with many nephews, nieces, neighbors and friends. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. H. E. Andrews preaching the sermon. The services at the grave were conducted by the Odd Fellows Lodge.
