Elliott, who dropped dead at the Elliott home southeast of Americus, Wednesday morning, was held in the Americus United Presbyterian Church Friday afternoon ay 2 o'clock. The pastor, C. H. Mitchell, assisted by A. J. Morton, of the Methodist Church, conducted the services. Mr. Mitchell used as his text II Timothy 2:3, "As a good soldier of Jesus Christ," which was especially applicable in view of the long and useful life Mr. Elliott had spent in Christian activities. The choir was composed of Mesdames J. J. Greenlee, W. R. Huston, Misses Anabel and Freida McAuley, Messrs. C. N. Kerr and A. A. Edmiston, with Mrs. C. N. Kerr as accompanist. The church was appropriately decorated with white draperies, greenery and potted plants, and the floral offerings were especially beautiful. The pallbearers were W. H. Edmiston, E. J. Edmiston, Lester Hunt, J. C. Irvine, S. S. Kerr and J. C. Stewart. Interment was made in the Americus Cemetery. This was an especially sad occasion to the Americus United Presbyterian congregation, as it was the second time in less than two weeks that death had claimed one from the official ranks of the congregation. Mr. Elliott's sons, J. M. Elliott, and E. A. Elliott, of Americus, and R. W. Elliott, of Manhattan, were all present at the funeral; but the daughter, Mrs. Kerr, of Mount Perry, Ohio, was detained by sickness. The following is a sketch of the life of Mr. Elliott, written by him and sent to his daughter on his 70th birthday: "Born September 6, 1842, lived on farm twenty years: Joined the army under Grant and Sherman in 1862: was present when 40,000 Confederates surrendered: taught school four short terms: went to school at Hayesville, Ohio, several terms: joined the Presbyterian Church in 1866: was married September 11, 1867; came to Kansas in 1870: was united with the United Presbyterian Church shortly after coming to Americus: was Superintendent of Sunday School for twenty years: member of session and clerk of same for more than thirty years: teacher in Sunday School more than thirty years: ember of school board more than thirty years: and held all the offices in the township from road overseer to squire. "I mention this history not in a boastful way of spirit, but a simple statement of facts, with gratitude to God for his many mercies and blessings."
