Description	:	Mr. Samuel Smouse died suddenly of heart disease at his residence in Hiawatha Thursday morning, May 24th. Mr. Smouse was in the 74th year of his age. He was born February 19, 1810, in Cumberland Valley, Allegheny Co, Maryland. His grandfather, Peter Smouse, emigrated from Saxony to Virginia about the year 1760, and was a soldier of the Revolutionary War, in the Virginia Continental Line. Read More	Mr. Samuel Smouse died suddenly of heart disease at his residence in Hiawatha Thursday morning, May 24th. Mr. Smouse was in the 74th year of his age. He was born February 19, 1810, in Cumberland Valley, Allegheny Co, Maryland. His grandfather, Peter Smouse, emigrated from Saxony to Virginia about the year 1760, and was a soldier of the Revolutionary War, in the Virginia Continental Line. After the war he returned to Alegheny Co, Maryland. He left two sons, Daniel, father of Samuel, the subject of this notice, and Henry. The deceased married about 1830 to Miss Elizabeth Troutman, of Somerset Co, Pa, who died April 24th 1874 in Hiawatha, and who was the mother of six surviving children: Ellen, wife of Col. E. Bierer; Kate, wife of Mr. SW Colley, of Fayette Co, Pa; Daniel T. Smouse; Anna, wife of George W. Seaman; John L. Smouse, now in Texas; and Ada, wife of Mr. John Buckley. September 19, 1878 the deceased married his second wife, Mrs Mary LeMoyne, who survives him. Deceased migrated with his family from Fayette Co Pa to Hiawatha, Kansas in October 1865, and has lived here ever since. He leaves many relatives in Iowa, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia. He was one of the oldest members in the county of both the Masonic and Odd Fellows fraternities, and was buried with Masonic ceremonies.
