Description	:	Samuel Stroman, of Co. D, enrolled Nov. 8, 1861 in Noble Co., IN, by Capt. Cosgrove as a Private; mustered in Nov. 22, 1861 in Ft. Wayne by Lt. Stansbury at age 18. He was 5ft 8" tall, florid complexion, hazel eyes, and dark hair. Born Jun 15, 1843, in Summit Co., OH, employed as a farmer, single, resident of Rome, in Noble Co., IN. Catherine L. filed Widow's Pension Application to receive Widow's Pension Certificate #901121 Mar. 5, 1921 in NE; also listed Co. A 1st IN Heavy Artillery where he enrolled Mar. 1864. He was born to pioneering parents, Charles and Rebecca Duke(s) Stroman. He was their 13th child. When he was still a boy, he moved with his family to LaGrange Co, IN. At seventeen he enlisted in the Union Army and was a member of Co. D 44th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He received a gunshot wound to his right arm in the Battle of Shiloh and was discharged Aug 29, 1862. He recovered from this wound and re-enlisted in Co. A 21st Indiana, Heavy Artillery (renamed 21st Infantry/1st Heavy Artillery and also named "The Indiana Jackass Regiment") where he served out the remainder of the war and was discharged Jan 10, 1866. Samuel married Catherine Lucretia Bower on Jan 27, 1867. They left Indiana in February of 1871 and homesteaded five miles southwest of Ulysses, NE in Seward Co. Nebraska. He lived near and in Ulysses, NE since as a successful businessman. He died peacefully at his home on Feb 12, 1921. Samuel and Catherine were blessed with three children Charles Francis Stroman 1868-1948 Sylvia Estella (Stroman) Aldrich 1870-1939 and Burr Ray Stroman 1880-1965 Siblings that do not have an FAG memorial include Daniel - 9/15/1818 - died at six weeks Henry - 10/5/1819 - 7/2/1824
