FORD DIES ON FERRY Baltimore Teacher Of Elocution Expires In New York [A special dispatch to The Sun from New York last night says:] While the Pennsylvania Railroad ferryboat Newark, which left the Twenty-third street slip at 2 o'clock this afternoon, was in midstream a man, supposed to be S.T. Ford, an actor, of Baltimore, died suddenly from apoplexy. He was seated in the women's cabin, when he suddenly pitched forward on the floor. There was much excitement and one of the women ran to the men's cabin and cried that a man was dying. On the boat was a Dr. Young of New York, who hurried to the women's cabin but he found that the man was dead. When the boat reached Jersey City railroad station the body was removed to an undertaking establishment in Montgomery street. In his pockets were a number of letters addressed to S.T. Ford, at the Continental Hotel, Twentieth street and Broadway, and several others addressed to Baltimore. Several of the letters intimated that Mr. Ford was a negro impersonator on the stage. At the Continental Hotel it was said that an S.T. Ford had stopped there at times for years, and has had mail addressed to him sent there recently. The clerk said he understood that Mr. Ford was an actor and that his home was in Baltimore. The dead man was about 50 years old. He was dressed in a business suit and in his pockets was $45.50. Mr. Ford was an uncle of United States Subtreasurer, A. Lincoln Dryden, and for a number of years lived on St. Paul street in this city, where he was engaged as a teacher of elocution. Some time ago he moved back to Somerset county, where he was born, and his home up to the time of his death was in that county.
