Amos, son of William and Sophia Amos, was born March 7, 1853; died September 11, 1903, aged 50 years, 6 months and 4 days. He was born at the old homestead near Perrysville and died at his home a short distance south of it. Amos, son of William and Sophia Amos, was born March 7, 1853; died September 11, 1903, aged 50 years, 6 months and 4 days. He was born at the old homestead near Perrysville and died at his home a short distance south of it. He was married to Agnes Amos in 1878 and to this union were born 12 children, 6 sons and 6 daughters. Eight of these still survive him, three sons, Oliver, Scott and Wayne, and five daughters, Georgiana, Josphine, Winifred, Ruby and Bernice, all of whom are at home. He also leaves a widow an aged mother, Mrs. Sophia Waddington, who resides at New Philadelphia, two brothers and four sisters. He was converted and joined the M. E. Church in 1879l he was a kind and loving father and an affectionate companion. He was a good business man and dealt in stock to a great extent, and had a widow acquaintance. His funeral was the largest ever known in this community, more than a thousand persons being in attendance. He was a member of the Scio Lodge, I.O.O.F., having joined that order about 25 years ago. The lodge took part in the burial service. George Canaga, noble grand of Scio Lodge, was master of ceremonies and was assisted by A. J. Butcher who acted as chaplain. Fifty members of the order marched in procession. They were from Scio, Bowerston, Jewett and Leesville. Rev. H. H. Davis of the U. B. Church, assisted by Rev. E. O. Morris of the M. E. Church, conducted the part of the service not participated in by the lodge. Services were held in the M. E. Church and the interment was made in the U. B. Cemetery. Among the large number of relatives who came from a distance were John Amos of Lexington, Illinois; Ambrose Amos and son and daughter Cora of Steubenville; Mrs. Sophia Waddington and Mrs. Eva Richardson of New Philadelphia; Mrs. Lizzie Riley, Clare Riley and wife of Federal, Pennsylvania; Emil Riley and wife of Beidling, Pennsylvania; Harvey Amos of Pittsburgh; Mrs. Virginia Amos and son Hugh of Kilgore; Dr. and Mrs. Clark, John Scott and Lacy Amos of Leesville; D. O. Rutan and wife and John J. Moody and wife of Carrollton, besides a large number from Scio and New Rumley. All had a feeling of regret at parting with an old friend, and the old couplet no doubt come up in their mind. Information researched by Richard Paul Culler of Carrollton, Ohio.
