Sara was born on April 2, 1938, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Edward L. and Kathryn A. (Ricker) Chambers. She graduated from Keokuk High School in 1956, where her dad was on the school board and handed her the diploma. In 1961 she was united in marriage to Robert Heston. They were later divorced. Heston, 83, of Keokuk, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at The Madison in Fort Madison. Sara was born on April 2, 1938, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Edward L. and Kathryn A. (Ricker) Chambers. She graduated from Keokuk High School in 1956, where her dad was on the school board and handed her the diploma. In 1961 she was united in marriage to Robert Heston. They were later divorced. Sara was employed as a bookkeeper at John W. Sammons Construction Company, Inc. for twenty years, retiring in 2000. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Keokuk, where she sang in the choir for many years. Sara was very intelligent and well-read. She was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles, the harder the better. All the reading she did paid off, because she rarely lost at her favorite game, Scrabble. She had a knack for making words rhyme, and wrote a collection of poems. She would use those poems on her homemade Christmas cards, which her children would draw. Two of her favorite things were car rides and music, but her top priority was her family. Sara is survived by her son Donald G. Heston of Keokuk; her daughter Cheryl A. Heston of Keokuk; her sister Anita Terpening of La Mesa, California; two grandchildren: Donovan Heston of Keokuk and Jonathan Heston of Fort Madison; and one great-granddaughter on the way. Sara is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Donald, Norris and Gene Chambers and her sister Eileen Fader. Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at DeJong-Greaves-Printy Funeral Home in Keokuk, with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Keokuk. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10 am to noon, directly before the service. Memorials may be directed to St. John's Episcopal Church, the Alzheimer's Association or the American Diabetes Association.
