SARAH ADELL CARR Sarah Adell Sheldon, the fourth of the children born to Iram and, Katherine Sheldon, was born at Grand Mound, Iowa, September 10th, 1865 and passed away in Hartley, Iowa on October 29th, 1920 at the age of fifty-five years, one month, and nineteen days. She had been a great sufferer since the first of last December. On the second of August she underwent an operation for the removal of the gall bladder and felt much, better for a time, but other complications made an operation for appendicitis and adhesions necessary on the 26th of October. The operation was successful and for a time it was thought that she would recover, but her system failed her and in spite of all that medical skill and tender nursing could do she passed aSvay at 11 p. m. on Friday night; just twenty days after the death of her mother. She received her education in the public schools. In November 1875 her family moved to Cherokee county, Iowa and settled on a farm six miles south of Cherokee where she lived until she was united in marriage with Elwood F. Carr on November 4th, 1885. The young couple settled on an adjoining farm and lived there until March 1st, 1911 when they located on a farm just northeast of Hartley, Iowa where she lived until her death. Six children, three sons, and three daughters came to gladden their home. One son Ellis Iram Carr passed away February 20th, 1912 and her husband Elwood F. Carr died on December 20th, 1913. She is survived by five children; Mrs. Guy Eaglesfield, Dougles, Arizona; Mrs. Marlow Waterhouse, Sutherland, Iowa; Elmer S. Carr, Hartley, Iowa; Mrs. Floyd Warburton, Cherokee, Iowa; and John G. Carr, Hartley; one grand child, Helene Warburton, Cherokee; five brothers and one sister, Frank M. Sheldon, Cherokee; Wm. T. Sheldon, Emmet, Idaho; Nelson V. Sheldon, Independence, Mo.; Jas. O. Sheldon, Cherokee; and Mrs. G. D. Sanister, Cherokee; Jos. O. Sheldon, Hartley. She united with the Methodist church when she was about twelve years old and has since been, a faithful and active member. She expressed her regret at having to leave her children, but otherwise gladly welcomed death for she, like the saints of old, desired "a better country, that is a heavenly" where she might live without pain with loved ones who had gone on before, and where she could be forever with her Savior. Short services were held at the home Sunday at 10:30 and at the Methodist church at 11:30. From there they went to Good Hope cemetery, eight miles southeast of Cherokee where short burial services were held and burial made. Rev. Barkley conducted the services.
