Description	:	Word was received here last night by Canonsburg relatives of the death of Miss Sarah Alice Giffin, which occurred yesterday at 3:15 p. m. in the home of her niece and nephew, Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Rutherford, New Concord, O. She had been ill only for a short time of pneumonia. Miss Giffin was born in East Pike street on January 12, 1850. She was the youngest daughter of A. Read More	Word was received here last night by Canonsburg relatives of the death of Miss Sarah Alice Giffin, which occurred yesterday at 3:15 p. m. in the home of her niece and nephew, Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Rutherford, New Concord, O. She had been ill only for a short time of pneumonia. Miss Giffin was born in East Pike street on January 12, 1850. She was the youngest daughter of A. H. and Margaret McNary Giffin, both pioneer families of this community. When she was five years of age her father purchased the McNary homestead and removed his family to it. It was commonly called "The Old Stone House," and was the Giffin home for many years. It was a landmark in the community and was removed only a short time before the Standard Tin Plate plant was erected. The Jack Collins house was built on its site. Following the death of her father in 1896, Miss Giffin and her sister, who died in 1906, removed to Canonsburg proper. The rest of her life was spent here until she went to New Concord, O., a few years ago where she has since made her home with her nephew and niece. In early life she united with what's now the Canonsburg U. P. church, then known as the Bridge church. Later in life she united with the Chartiers U. P. church and was one of its oldest members. She attended services in the New Concord church almost to the time of her death. Services will be held at the Rutherford home tonight at 7 o'clock. The body will be brought to Canonsburg where it will arrive it 12:30 p. m. Thursday and funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock at the McNary funeral home here.
