A. and Sarah Rife, was born April 23, 1855 and died March 12, 1919, being 63 years, 10 months and 19 days old. She was united in marriage to Coll Forbes on April 19, 1877. To this union four children were born, all of which have preceded their mother in death, three having died in infancy. A daughter, Lula, wife of James Aubrecht died number of years ago, leaving four little sons, two of which this mother has tenderly cared for as her own, and they will mourn her loss with much sorrow. Mr. and Mrs. Forbes made this neighborhood their home after marriage and for the greater part of their married life with the exception of five years in Kansas and two years in Minnesota, also s number of years in Lone Tree and one year, in Columbus Junction, moving from the latter place to the E. N. Walker farm. Mrs. Forbes was twice married, her first husband being a brother to Mr. Forbes. To this union two children were born Mrs. Minnie Yocum, now living in Minnesota and Charles of this place. Mrs. Forbes' health began to fail her a number of years ago and Christmas day she became seriously ill. She rallied for a time and her loved ones gave hope for she was able to be moved to. the home of her son, Charles, where she could be more tenderly cared for. All that medical skill and loving hands could do proved of no avail, however. Her suffering was intense, she grew weaker each day, and Wednesday morning, just as the day was breaking into light, God sent his death messenger and bide peace to her soul. Besides her husband and two children, she leaves her aged mother, Mrs. Sarah Rife of Marshalltown, one brother, Ernest Rife of Osborn, Kansas, seventeen grandchildren and three great grandchildren, besides a host of relatives and friends. Her funeral was held Thursday afternoon at the Swank church, conducted by Rev. E. D. Lantz of the Reformed church of Lone Tree. After the services her remains were tenderly laid away in the cemetery nearby, there to await the resurrection morn. The sympathy of friends goes out to Mr. Forbes and family in the lots of their loved one. May they be sustained by the God of peace and someday be reunited where death and parting never come. "Sleep dear mother and sweet be thy rest."
