Read More	"Newton Journal", Newton, Jasper County, Iowa Wednesday, August 19, 1896 At Rest Mrs. Sarah Ann Cotton-Cole (s/b Coe) died at the home of her brother Mr. George Cotton, in Palo Alto township, last Saturday evening, and was buried in the Palo Alto cemetery, on Sunday afternoon at four o'clock. Mrs. Cole was married in England when young, but her husband was killed many years ago, so she has been a widow most of her life. She lived for a long time in Jasper County, but of late has made her home in Des Moines. Several weeks ago, she came to her brother's home sick, and gradually grew worse until her death, the cause being dropsy. She was 61 years old. The funeral services will be held in the Palo Alto U. P. church, next Sabbath afternoon. "The Newton Record", Newton, Jasper County, Iowa Friday, August 21, 1896, Page 1 Column 1 Mrs. Sarah Ann Coe – better known as Sarah Cotton – died at the home of her brother, George Cotton, four miles south of Newton, Saturday evening, at 7 o'clock, of dropsy. The lady's age was sixty-one years last April. She was born near Barnsley, England. In the fall of 1869, she came to America, stopped for a few months in Indiana, and from there came to Newton, where she has lived a greater part of the time since. For many years she has been a zealous and devoted member of the Reorganized Church of the Latter Day Saints. She was a good woman, in the fullest sense of the word, and she has gone to her reward. The interment took place on Sunday evening, in Palo Alto Cemetery. Funeral services will be held next Sunday, at 2:30 p. m. in the U. P. Church of Palo Alto Township. ******************************************************** Sarah Cotton Coe is the daughter of Thomas and Charlotte Hutchinson Cotton and was born in Ardsley, South Yorkshire, England. She married Joseph Coe in Yorkshire, England about 1856.
