Sarah C. Nedrow, the deceased, was born in Van Buren county, Iowa, in 1862, and was married to Jacob T. Smouse in 1886. They farmed for a time in Audubon county and in 1889 bought an 80 in Carroll county and by industry added to the home place and additional 100 acres, making a farm of 180 acres, and materially developing tho land. Twelve children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Smouse— Dicy and Don, twins; George, Harriet, Lot, Druella, Eve, Vernita, (deceased) Ralph, Alice and Anna, deceased, and Miles. Mr. Smouse died several years ago and Mrs. Smouse was left administratrix and showed good financial ability, preserving and improving the farm and aiding her children. Mrs. Sarah Caroline Smouse possessed a bright, quick mind and a spirit which was uniformly cordial and she won many friends who deeply sympathized with her in her affliction and who grieve at her death. She was a splendid type of womanhood and motherhood and her influence was always elevating. She was a member of the W. C. T. U., also of the Eastern Star. The funeral was conducted at the M. E. church at the M. E. church Tuesday, of which denomination she was a member, by the pastor, Rev. C. W. Koehler, many friends being in attendance, the funeral being in charge of the Eastern Star. The body was laid to its final rest in the Coon Rapids cemetery.
