The remains were taken to Strawberry Point for interment. Sarah E. Scofield was born in Essex county, New York, November 28, 1836. She came to Iowa in 1863 and made her home at Strawberry Point. In 1876 she was married to William Madison, at which time she removed to Edgewood where her home has been ever since. Her husband died a few years ago. Two brothers remain, Nathan Scofield, of Pocahontas, and George Scofield, of Strawberry Point and one sister, Miss Harriet Scofield, who for some years has made her home with Mrs. Madison, and who is now in very feeble health due to advancing years. Mrs. Madison, "Aunt Sarah", as she was familiarly known was universally beloved by all who knew her. Possessed of a cheerful, genial disposition and wholly unselfish at heart, it was but natural that all who knew her should realize the attractiveness of such a character. Her life was devoted to the cheerful performance of the duties laid upon her, and she was unusually active and industrious for one of her years. Her last illness was of comparatively short duration, so that until practically the end she was about the tasks that for her constituted a simple, contented, submissive life of service. Early in life, before coming to Iowa, Mrs. Madison united with the Methodist church, in whose membership she remained a faithful and consistent disciple of Christ until her death. Her habits of church attendance were regular and her devotion to the kingdom of the Master unwavering through all the varied experiences of her life. Throughout a long life she thus "walked with God," and at length she was not, for God took her. A useful, exemplary life has closed, and a faithful servant of the King eternal has assumed her crown of everlasting glory. (Many thanks to FaG Contributor, JMB for sharing this obituary.)
