Zenor, another of the best pioneer women of Boone county and of central Iowa, passed peacefully away at her home in Ontario at 1:00 o’clock last Thursday, May 18th. Death was caused by cancer. She had been in failing health for more than three years, but not until about two months ago did the nature of her illness develop. She then commenced to fail rapidly and it was seen that the end was near. Sarah Ellen Lucas, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Lucas, was born in Clay County, Indiana, November 24, 1851. When two years of age her parents moved to Boone county and settled on a farm in Worth township, five miles southeast of Boone, where they resided until their death which occurred at ripe old ages. For many years she was a faithful and efficient teacher in the public schools and as such was well known and beloved throughout the community. July 14, 1886, she was united in marriage with Mr. S.T. Zenor of Story county and they have made their home there since, with the exception of about three years spent in South Dakota. In February, 1910, they removed to Ontario, where they have since resided and where she passed away. She was a noble woman, though plain spoken. Sometimes she had a humorous way of making others laugh and winning friends that were true and lasting. She was not a church member, though a firm believer. Her religion was of the king found in the heart and manifested in the works of everyday life. Kindly, affectionate and unselfish with her family, faithful, honest and conscientious with family and friends, she lived an unselfish and most exemplary life. She bore her suffering patiently and a few days before her death said she was not afraid to die and when the last summons came she passed peacefully away. We mourn the loss of a kind and loving wife, mother and sister shoes place can never be filled in this world. We cannot call her dead, but only gone before, To meet with loved ones, On that blissful shore. To richest realms of endless day, Where joys supernal fade not away, Where flowers of love forever bloom, Beyond this vale, beyond the tomb. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, one son, one daughter, and son in law, four grandchildren, three brothers, five sisters and numerous other relatives and friends. The funeral services were held from the Christian church in Ontario Sunday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Fowle, pastor of the Baptist church in Ames, and attended by a host of sorrowing relatives and friends. The remains were laid to rest in the Ontario cemetery and the Rebekah Lodge of Ontario, conducted the ritualistic service at the grave.
