Obituary From "Ottumwa Courier," December 24, 1945: 79-Year Resident Of Ottumwa Dies Mrs. Emma Chapman, 87, of Ottumwa route 4, died at the Rest Haven nursing home here today at 7 a.m. She had been a resident of the Ottumwa community for the past 79 years. She as born in Illinois March 2, 1858, and was a member of the Willard Street Methodist church here. Surviving are a granddaughter, Mrs. Tom Parker,, Ottumwa; one nephew, Earl Doan, Ottumwa; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Jennie Hodges of Tracy and one stepdaughter-in-law, Mrs. Elvira Chapman, Ottumwa route 4. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank M. Chapman, in 1931, one son, Absolem and her parents. She was the last member of her family. The body is at the Johnson funeral home awaiting completion of funeral arrangements. "Funeral Services," From "Ottumwa Courier," December 26, 1945: Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Chapman, Ottumwa route 4, who died at the Rest Haven nursing home, 820 West Pershing avenue, Monday, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Willard Street Methodist church. The Rev. C.R. Reed, pastor of the church, will be in charge and burial will be made in Shaul cemetery. The casket will remain at the Johnson funeral chapel until 1:30 p.m. Thursday when it will be taken to the church.
