Stemm Sarah Frances, daughter of Hiram and Elizabeth Nyswonger, was born on a farm near Liberty Center, Iowa, on March 15, 1866, and passed away quietly in her sleep on Oct. 1, 1958, at the home of her daughter, Theresa Spaulding, at Lamoni, at the age of 92 years, 6 months, and 15 days. Stemm Sarah Frances, daughter of Hiram and Elizabeth Nyswonger, was born on a farm near Liberty Center, Iowa, on March 15, 1866, and passed away quietly in her sleep on Oct. 1, 1958, at the home of her daughter, Theresa Spaulding, at Lamoni, at the age of 92 years, 6 months, and 15 days. During her early girlhood and early youth she attended the local rural school and helped care for her five brothers and one sister. On Sept. 12, 1888, just a little more than 70 years ago, she became the wife of William Stemm. To them were born six children. This devoted couple lived for 30 years with their family on the farm to which they went as newlyweds. Then they moved to Lamoni and located in their home on Cedar street where they lived for their remaining days together. The father passed away on Dec. 23, 1943, almost 15 years ago. Mother Stemm continued to live in the home until infirmities of age made it necessary for her to be cared for by her children. She chose to live with her daughter Theresa and family where her constant wish was to help with any momentary activity. She was ever a kindly sister and neighbor, a consecrated mother and a Christian woman of highest ideals. She was baptized into the Reorganized Latter Day Saint church on Nov. 10, 1908. The husband, one daughter, Margaret Willey, a son, Otto, and one grandson, Zaccheus Stemm, have preceded her in death. Those who survive are son Charley and his wife Nellie; Leta Shakespeare and husband Barry; Theresa Spaulding and husband Grover; son Everett and his wife Sylvia; four granddaughters, four grandsons, nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, WiIlam Nyswonger of Hanford, Calif., and Tyler Nyswonger of Indianola, Iowa, and other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were conducted at the Marsh Funeral chapel by Elder A. L. Keen, who was assisted by Morton Edmunds. Interment was in the family plot at Rose Hill cemetery on Oct. 2, 1958.
