Mrs. Reid was away for a short time on an errand and on returning, found her mother dead. Mrs. Bessie was quite old and has been feeble for some time but it was not thought serious. We have not as yet learned where or when the funeral will be held. ````````````` October 10, 1912, p. 1, col. 6 TWO CROSS THE PORTAL Death Angel Makes Two Visitations to Fullerton Homes The Death Angel made two visitations to our community during the last week, calling to their Eternal Home Mrs. Ida Loder and Mrs. John Bessy. A brief mention of Mrs. Bessy's death was made in last week's issue, but particulars were not at hand at that time. Apoplexy is given as the cause of her death which occured on the afternoon of October 2nd, the funeral being held from the Reid home, Friday afternoon, with the Reverend Mr. Cooper in charge of the services. A more complete account follows: Sarah Fuller, the subject of this sketch, was born near Montreal, Canada, a little more than 77 years ago, and when about 17 years of age she came to the state of Iowa. When 22 years of age she was united to Mr. John Bessy and made Iowa her home for many years. Mr. Bessy enlisted in the services of his country and during the Civil War Mrs. Bessy was responsible for the care and training of five step children, who were reared to maturity and today "rise up to call her blessed," one of the number, Mr. Geo. F. Bessy, is [illegible] today. Of Mrs. Bessy's own family four children still survive: Mrs. Mary Reid, who for a number of years has been a resident of Fullerton; Mr. William and John Bessy and Mrs. Clara Miller of Chapman, Nebraska. Mr. Bessy, the husband, still survives. Both were cared for in the Old Soldiers home at Grand Island until last September, when the growing infirmities of the aged wife and mother made it necessary for her daughter, Mrs. Reid, to bring her to Fullerton, where she could be watched over with tender solicitude, until the Death Angel should lead her safely through the Valley of the Shadow of Death. Mrs. Bessy in her earlier life was a member of the United Brethern church, but in later life she united with the Methodist Episcopal church in which communion she lived until the close of her earthly career, which occured on Wednesday afternoon, October 2nd. Suddenly, without a moments warning, when least expected, the stroke fell, the summons came. "And she was not, for God took her."
