Mrs. Sarah Forbes, 87, passed away Saturday night about midnight at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jay Wall, northwest of Conesvllle. While she had been in failing health for some years, she had been up and around as usual that day, and her passing was unexpected. Death was due to the infirmities of old age. Music for the service was furnished by Mrs. Clyde Wolford and Mrs. Roy Jean, accompanied by Miss Hilda Owen, who sang "Nearer My God To Thee", "In The Garden", and "Going Down The Valley". Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Beulah Weber, Mrs. Florence Rath, Mrs. Lawrence Forbes, Mrs. Daris Forbes, Mrs. Ray Forbes, Merle Enfield. Burial was in the Swank cemetery. Obituary Mrs. Sarah Forbes, the daughter of Daniel and Matilda Hughes Hill, was born in Ohio, April 30, 1853, and passed away in Oakland township March 29, 1941 at the age of 87 years and 11 months. Her mother died when she was quite small and with her father and three other children she came to Iowa in a covered wagon, the family settling on a farm in Oakland township, Louisa county, where she grew to young womanhood. April 4, 1873, she was married to Asa Forbes, and they began housekeeping on a farm in Oakland township. In 1881 they moved to Calhoun county for one year but moved back to this community again and purchased the farm which has been her home for 55 years. Mr. Forbes died in June, 1916. To this union eight children were born, three dying in infancy, and one son, Fred, dying in California in 1928. Her parents, two sisters, one brother and two half brothers preceded her in death. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Jay Wall, three sons, Haney, Clarence and Vernie, all of Conesville, 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. Mrs. Forbes held the affection of a large circle of friends. She possessed every womanly attribute and endeared herself to all who knew her by her geniality of spirit, her line character and a sympathetic and kindly disposition. She loved her family and home, and was a good neighbor and was always ready and willing to help in time of trouble. es
