Description	:	Sarah was the daughter of William Hobbs and Sarah Chalk. She married Aaron Smith Sept 4, 1862 in Indiana. March 24, 1921 - Carroll Times - Mrs. A. E. Smith died at her home in this city Monday night after an illness which extended over a year and a half. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Bair were held in the Methodist church yesterday afternoon and were largely attended by relatives and friends of the deceased woman. Mrs. Smith, who was Miss Sarah J. Hobbs, before her marriage was born in Green County, Ohio, September 21, 1840. She was united in marriage to Aaron E. Smith, September 4, 1862 in Deleware county, Indiana. They came to Carroll county, Iowa in 1869 and settled in Jasper township. After a residence of three years at that place, they came to Carroll which has been the family home. Mr. Smith died January 23, 1888 and during all these years, Mrs. Smith made an attractive home for herself, a home which her friends enjoyed to visit. Mrs. Smith was of a particularly cheerful disposition and had hosts of friends in the city. Until her illness she kept herself busy with her home and in doing sewing for others and had a large trade in Carroll and the neighboring towns. She longed to live and made a brave struggle for life but had to give up the fight. She is survived by one brother, E.R. Hobbs, of Lake City, and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Smith of Indiana, and a number of nieces and nephews.
