She had been ill for a number of years with a complication of diseases. She was 82 years old. Mrs. Sarah Allen was born in Indiana June 27, 1835. (Date calculated from headstone is June 28, 1838.) She came with her parents to Jasper County, Iowa in 1840 and she had until her death lived in her home in or near Newton. She was first married to Pleasant Trotter and to the union four children were born, John Trotter and Jacob Trotter, both of Newton, and two daughters, Elizabeth and Elnora, both of whom are deceased. Pleasant Trotter died in 1867. In 1873, (1873 is incorrect; the date was August 10, 1868), she was married to Samuel Allen who departed this life in 1902. (This date is incorrect. The correct date was June 10, 1898.) There were no children to this union. One brother and three sisters also survive. They are Henry Herrin of Colorado, Mrs. David Dales of Ira, Mrs. Ira of Wyoming, and Mrs. Nancy Swagg, whose whereabouts is unknown. Mrs. Allen was a member of the local Lutheran church and she always took great interest in all church work.
