Mrs. Higginbotham was born in Licking county, Ohio, July 18, 1845, and came west with her parents in 1855, in a covered wagon, ferrying across the Mississippi river. They settled first in Vinton, where they remained a short time before settling northeast of Steamboat Rock in 1856. She was married May 1, 1864 to James M. Higginbotham, who died in 1914. To this union were born four children, Arthur of Kingsley; Harlan W. of Steamboat Rock; Mrs. R. N. Lawrence, deceased; and Mrs. E. A. Albertson of Redlands, Calif. Others who survive are ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren; two brothers, John P. Rhodes of New Virginia, and George W. Rhodes of Chicago; and two sisters, Mrs. L. E. Edgington of Sedalia, Mo., and Mrs. W. G. Brown, Grundy Center. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Church of Christ, of which she was a lifelong member, in Eldora, with burial in Eldora cemetery. Rev. A. L. Ragsdale officiated at the service and also conducted a short prayer service at the Vilmont-Longenecker funeral home. Music at the funeral was provided by Miss Mildred Albee and Miss Lewin, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Glen Hoover.
