Although Mr. Higginbotham had not in the best of health of late, nothing of a serious nature was thought of. A short time previous to the coming of the death messenger Mr. Higginbotham had been visiting with a number of callers at the farm, showing his friends his thoroughbred chickens, the growing of which he had made a specialty of for a number of years. Mr. Higginbotham was born near Xenia, in Greene county, Ohio, July 25, 1841. Mr. Higginbotham came to Hardin county, Iowa, in 1856, making the trip from Ohio in a wagon over rough roads and across unbridged streams. He knew of the hardships incident to pioneer life, for with his hands he helped clear away the timber from large farms and to assist in developing this then practically unbroken land. In 1864 Mr. Higginbotham was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Jane Rhodes, who with his four children-two sons and two daughters-survived him. The children are: A. E. Higginbotham of Kingsley, Iowa; Mrs. Richard Lawrence of Union; Mrs. Ezra A. Albertson of Aiden, and Harley Higginbotham who has always resided with his parents. Mr. Higginbotham was a man of rugged honesty, a friend of the best possible government and a citizen whose life was worthy of emulation. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from the Christian church, the service being in charge of Rev. A. I. Martin. The burial was in Eldora cemetery.
