Description	:	Sarah Jane Brown, only daughter of Elijah and Sarah (Lamm) Wood, was born in Henry County, Iowa March 31, 1862, and died at the old home near Denova October 2, 1921, aged 59 years, 6 months, and one day. Her mother passed away when she was a few days old. She was taken into the home of David and Mary Hockett when eight days old. Read More	Sarah Jane Brown, only daughter of Elijah and Sarah (Lamm) Wood, was born in Henry County, Iowa March 31, 1862, and died at the old home near Denova October 2, 1921, aged 59 years, 6 months, and one day. Her mother passed away when she was a few days old. She was taken into the home of David and Mary Hockett when eight days old. She moved with her foster parents to Madison County when a year and a half old, where she grew to young womanhood loved and cherished as an own daughter. She was married to Edward Males, December 16, 1883, near Earlham, who passed away in 1893. She was later married to Phineas L. Brown, March 7, 1894, who passed to the Great Beyond October 29, 1918. She is survived by a foster brother and sister, Stephen Hockett and Mrs. Nannie King of Earlham; a stepmother and half brother and sisters of Lamar, Colorado, and the following step-children: Elmer Brown of Wapello; John, Charlie, George, and Robert of Mt. Pleasant and seven grandchildren who were permitted to be with her in her last illness and do all that loving hands could do to alleviate her suffering. She was converted in early life and for years has been interested in the spread of the gospel in foreign lands. She was of a cheerful, happy disposition, a faithful and loving neighbor and friend, interested in things that are worth while. She was especially interested in young people and always endeavoring to help them in right things. She bore her suffering with great patience and often expressed a desire the Lord would take her to Himself. Funeral services in charge of A.C. Barrett were held at Cedar Church Monday afternoon, October 3, at 2:30, and at the cemetery in charge of the Rebeccas of Mt. Pleasant. -- Salem Weekly News, October 13, 1921, page 1.
