Read More	After many years of quiet and useful life, Phineas Lamm Brown, long known as one of the best and most esteemed citizens of this county, died at his home, 407 S. Adams Street, [Mt. Pleasant, Iowa] early on Tuesday morning, October 29, 1918. He moved here from Denova eight years ago and has since made this his home and where he made many friends. For some time he has been one of the court bailiffs. He was taken sick about Fair time and has steadily failed. He was a son of John R. and Keziah (Lamm) Brown, and was born in Preble County, Ohio, May 8th, 1845. When a lad of eight he came with his parents, brothers and sister to Iowa, the family settling on a farm four miles north of Salem, which was ever after the family home. He was a birthright member of the Quaker Church, being an adherent of that branch of the Society of Friends which followed the teachings of George Fox. He was a man of sterling worth who was held in high regard by all who knew him. He was known among his family and friends as an honest, upright, faithful, kindly and lovable man. He was a great lover of children. He was possessed of a quiet vein of humor, cheerful and kindly, which always made him a welcome figure anywhere. He was thrice married and twice bereaved. His first wife was Rebecca Harshbarger to whom he was wedded January 9, 1868. At her death four children were left to his care, Elmer Brown, now a resident of Wapello, John Brown of Roscoe, Iowa, and Charles and George Brown of Mt. Pleasant. Later he was married February 17, 1881, to Elmina Heck. One son, Robert Brown of this city, came to them. After her demise Mr. Brown and Mrs. Sarah Males, who with the children remains to mourn, were united in marriage March 7, 1894. Seven grandchildren are left. Two of them, John Phineas Brown, somewhere in France, and Arthur Brown, Camp Zachary Taylor, Kentucky, are in the Country's service. A great many old friends also will miss the pleasant smile and greeting of the good old man. Funeral services, conducted by Frank E. Weston, pastor of the First Baptist Church, were held at the home on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30, and at Cedar Cemetery also a little later. There were many at both places to show their regard and sympathy. Mrs. Martin Harshbarger and Miss Florence Mason sang at the house, a double mixed quartette at Cedar. The pallbearers at the house were Charles Tribby, Chas. Whittaker, Sidney Milks, Claude Taft, William Taylor and Dewitt Taylor. Those at the cemetery were E. J. Maxwell, Charles Cooper, Penn Smith, H.C. Lamme, Newt. Vandoren and Frank Hodson. -- Mount Pleasant News
