Sarah Lorena Pratt was born in Pennsylvania, Feb. 26, 1841 (sic), and departed this life July 31, 1914 at the age of 73 years, 5 months and 5 days. The family moved to Fayette Co IA where she was married to Wm LaFurge. To this union were born seven children. In the year of 1874, a cyclone swept through the country and the family was called to mourn the loss of a husband and father. By hard work and such hardships as were known only to the early settlers did the mother raise her family and give them an education. About thirty years ago, the family removed to Sioux Rapids and later came here. For several years she had made home with her son, George where every kindness was shown to brighten her declining years. For the past three or four years her health has been very poor, gradually failing till the end came as a great relief to her tired spirit. She is survived by six of the children, Mrs. Burling, Mrs. Mayo, Homer, Geo., Jim and Will, three brothers and one sister. Besides numerous other relatives. One son, Frank, preceded the mother to the great beyond. Parents and neighbors gathered at the home Sunday to pay their respects to this good woman. Services were in charge of Rev R. W Coats, pastor of the church at Gillet Grove and the body was taken to Fayette Co for burial. NEWSPAPER UNIDENTIFIED: FAYETTE CO IA DATE UNKNOWN: PRESUMED EARLY AUGUST 1914 The remains of Mrs. Lorena La Firge (sic), a resident of North Windsor in the 70's, were brought here for interment Monday from Ruthven. The deceased was over 70 years of age. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. W. H. Burling,, of Colman SD, and Mrs. Fred Mayo, of Hawkeye, there are several sons, one of whom, George, of Webb IA, accompanied the remains here. The husband lost his life in a cyclone that visited this region fifty years this fall.
