She was b. of record Sept. 3, 1718 at Barnstable, Mass. But, as the memorialist is a descendant of the immigrant Thomas1 Lumbert family of Barnstable, there has been considerable interest in solving Sarah (Lumbert) Manning's identity. Given Sarah's gravestone it is highly likely that her recorded date of birth at Barnstable is reversed with her brother John, he recorded as b. Jan. 9, 1719/20. If so, it would not be the only misalignment of children's birth dates in the Barnstable vital records and reference to her date of birth in this memorial reflects this probable error in the Barnstable record. By 1743, Sarah's maternal grandfather, Dea. John3 Baker, along with the latter's sons Samuel4 and John4, moved from Barnstable, Mass. to Windham, Conn. On April 7, 1744 at Barnstable, John Manning of "Wendham" published the intent to marry Sarah "Lumbart" of Barnstable, followed on June 10, 1744 by their marriage at Barnstable by Rev. Joseph Green of the East Barnstable Cong. Chh. Sarah (Lumbert) Manning d. at Windham, Conn. Apr. 29, 1751, "in the 32d. year of her Age," i.e., Æ 32. Sarah and husband John Manning had three children of record at Windham, Conn., the two daus., Anna and Abigail, named after their respective maternal and paternal grandmothers. An outline of the children is contained in their father's memorial. Sarah (Lumbert) Manning's paternal grandmother was Sarah Walker, dau. of William Walker and Sarah Snow of Eastham, Mass. Sarah (Snow) Walker's mother was Constance Hopkins, who at the age of 14 along with her father Stephen arrived at Plymouth, Mass. on the 1620 passage of the Mayflower. Sarah (Lumbert) Manning's maternal grandfather, Dea. John3 Baker, was the son of Samuel,2 Baker and Fear Robinson, latter the dau. of the immigrant Isaac Robinson, son of Rev. John Robinson, pastor of the 1620 Mayflower Pilgrims at Leiden, Holland.
