On June 10, 1744 of record at Barnstable, Mass., John m. 1) Sarah Lumbert, dau. of Capt. Samuel Lumbert and Anna Baker, b. Jan. 9, 1719/20 at Barnstable, Mass. Her mother was the dau. of Dea. John Baker and Anna Annable. Following the death of Anna (Annable) Baker at Barnstable in 1733, Dea. Baker moved with some of his children to Windham, Conn., with Sarah (Lumbert) Manning's mother remaining with her family at Barnstable. Dea. Baker was the son of Fear (Robinson) Baker, the eldest surviving dau. of the immigrant Isaac Robinson, latter the only known child of Rev. John Robinson, pastor of the 1620 Mayflower pilgrims at Leiden, Holland, to immigrate to America. Sarah (Lumbert) Manning d. Apr. 29, 1751 at Windham. They had the following three children recorded at Windham, Conn.: • i. Anna Manning, b. Aug. 20, 1745, d. Dec. 6, 1810 at Windham (g.s.); m. Jan. 17, 1768 at the Scotland Cong. Church (then part of the Town of Windham), Levi Johnson, who d. at Windham Aug. 7, 1809 (g.s.). The Manning Gen. claims they had eight children, including the eldest James, the only one that appears in the Windham VRs. • ii. Eliphalet Manning, b. May 17, 1747; no further record found. • iii. Abigail Manning, b. Oct. 10, 1749, d. in infancy July 6, 1750. On Jan. 27, 1752 at Windham, Conn., John m. 2) Sarah Seabury, dau. of Benjamin Seabury and Margaret Ripley, bp. of record Dec. 29, 1723 at Lebanon, Conn. She d. Dec. 22, 1817 at Windham, Conn. Sarah's mother was the dau. of Joshua Ripley and Hannah Bradford, latter the granddau. of Gov. William Bradford of the 1620 Mayflower voyage and the Plymouth Colony. They had the following eight children recorded at Windham, Conn. • iv. Benjamin Manning, a twin b. Mar. 30, 1753, d. in infancy Jan. 18, 1755. • v. Dea. John Manning, 3rd, a twin b. Mar. 30, 1753, d. Dec 20, 1828 at Lebanon, Conn.; m. 1) Feb. 18, 1784 at the Scotland Cong. Church at Windham (but recorded in the Lebanon vital records), Mary Perkins, and 2) Mar. 4, 1795 at Lebanon, Irene Wood. Six children of the family. • vi. Andrew Manning, b. July 8, 1755. • vii. Benjamin Manning, b. Oct. 16, 1757, d. July 16, 1838 at Windham (that part now Scotland); m. Nov. 11, 1787 at Windham, Sarah Munsell, who d. Mar. 18, 1850. Two recorded children. • viii. Alathea Manning, b. Jan. 25, 1760. Two Alathea Mannings m. at the Scotland Cong. Church, one who may be this Alathea: a) m. Jan. 13, 1783 James Rudd; b) m. Jan. 20, 1792 Eleazer Welch. • ix. Seabury Manning, b. July 3, 1762, d. Dec. 14, 1843 at Windham (g.s.) Was a soldier during the late stages of the Rev. War. Whether he had a family has not been traced. • x. Gamaliel Manning, b. Feb. 10, 1765, d. July 23, 1851 at Windham (g.s.) Whether he had a family has not been traced. • xi. Barnabas Manning, b. Sept. 14, 1768, probably the Barnabas who m. Esther Belcher, Dec. 20, 1792, at the Scotland Cong. Church at Windham.
