Simmons, Wilmington, Del. Her funeral was held at the home conducted by her pastor, Rev. F. L. Morrison and burial in the home cemetery, she being a member of the Methodist church nearly all her life, and always willing to help any one in time of need. Highland Recorder November 20, 1914 Obituary for Christian Simmons Christian Simmons died Oct. 8th, 1914, at his home near Doe Hill, Va , Aged 70 years. He married Miss Sarah M. Biby, April, 1868. To this union were born 12 children, seven sons and five daughters. Two sons and one daughter died in youth. His wife and nine children are left to mourn their loss, G. K. at home, J. C. of Highland county, H. G. of Augusta county, S. T. and W. P. Illinois, Mrs. J. A. Davis of Norfolk, Va., Mrs. H.P. Sharp Wilmington, Del., Mrs. Walter Brown, Arbovale. W. Va , and Miss Jessie at home. He served through the Confederate War, serving as a member of the "Franklin Guard" in the 25th Virginia Regiment He was captured at the Battle of the Wilderness in 1864 and was still in prison at the time of the surrender. He was not released until July after the surrender. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. L. L. Lowance of Monterey, after which he was laid in the family cemetery followed by a large concourse of relatives and friends.
