| Description | : | Sarah immigrated from Germany at age 13 in 1853, with her parents, brother Johann Grittman,and sister Lottie Grittman. She married John Herger [also a native of Germany] in 1859 in Monroe County Illinois. Sarah and John along with her brother Johann and family, came to Cloud County Kansas in 1869 to homestead. They were some of the earliest settlers in the Solomon Valley. In 1879 Sarah and John's two youngest children, Conrad and Carl died.
