| Description | : | John emigrated to America in 1854 and settled in Monroe County Illinois. In 1859 he married Sarah Mary Grittman also a native of Germany. In 1869, the couple with their four children moved to Cloud County Kansas. John and Sarah Mary subsequently had four more children. Of their eight children, the two youngest died before reaching adulthood. Both boys died the same year. A loss that John never recovered from.
