Moon, Montrose Iowa; Mrs. Mary Miller-Idaho. ______________________________ On October 17th 1828, she married William Hurd Griswold, he preceded her in death on May 14, 1884.∼Clarkstown Rockland RDC 16 Apr 1809 Sara (b: 22 Mar) Peteris Onderdonck & Maregrietje Palmer ================================================ From letter from Hilda Krehbiel Apr 1993 …I don/t know much about the Onderdonk family, only what my mother would tell me about her grandmother [my note: Sally Onderdonk] that lived with them. She was very fond of her and she grew up and was married before her grandmother died; she died the year I was born (1899). She said her grandmother liked to sit outside and sew. I suppose she helped with the mending as there must have been plenty to do with such a large family. She had a pet crow named Jocko that would sit on her shoulder while she sewed. Sometimes he would carry her thread away and one time he brought his dinner (chilken entrails) and drop[ed them in her lap! Mother [my note: Eva Griswold Maxfield] lived with us for fifteen yrs. Her brothers and sisters came to visit her quite often and after she was gone, I missed those visits. She was 95 when she passed away. After all our parents were gone was when Larry, Uncle Victor's son decided we cousins should keep in touch - so the cousin reunion was started and still going. Guess who is the oldest?--- ========================================= LAST WILL & TESTAMENT OF SALLY GRISWOLD-Book B--Will book @ Fort Madison,Lee,IA; probated April 12, 1899--will dated Jan 18,1896 I SALLY GRISWOLD of Jeffeson Township Lee Co. Iowa, being of sound mind, do make and declare, this my last will and testament as follows, After my debts and expences (sic) are paid I give and bequeath to my son Henry Griswold,One Hundred Dollars, the clock, and the dictionary. To my son, George Griswold, my gold spectacles & One Hundred Dollars. . To my daughter, Almira Moon, my Beanvo rocking chair, table encyclopedia, and 1/2 of my wearing apparrel, bedding, table-ware, furniture, etc. that has not been otherwise disposed of by this will , and One Hundred Dollars.. To my daughter, Marry Miller, my woolen shawl, my crochaged skirt, one half of the household goods not otherwise disposed off & One Hundred Dollars. To my granddaughter, Garrie Pennington, my feather bed, one pair of large pillows, and the remainder of my money's & credits not to exceed One Hundred Dollars. To my son, James Griswold, the large family Bible and the secretary and the contents thereof. If there should be any other money or property after these various bequests, it shall be equally divided between the parties herein mentioned except James Griswold. If any of the heirs herein mentioned are dead at the time of my death, the property bequeathed to them is to be equaly divided between the otheres that are living and are mentioned in this will (excepting James Griswold) And I hereby appoint my son James Griswold my executer without bond And if he is not living, my son Henry Griswold in his stead. Junkins Mrs. Emma Holmes ==================================================================== Jefferson Township Feb 3rd 1908' To the District Court Lee Co Iowa In regard to the estate of Sally Griswold who died February 7th 1899 leaving some property concisting of some five hundred Dollars cash and some furniture and apointing James Griswold administrator Now I James Griswold do report that I administred on on said property as follows: I paid to the heirs of Henry Griswold $100.00; to Garry Pennington; $100.00; to Almira Moon $100.00; and Mary Miller $100.00 and there was some accrued intrest which was also divided between said heires ; the Doctors bills and funerel expences and some Court expences amounting to some over $100.00 were also paid...For all of which I kept a correct acount, and had receipts for every-thing I paid out. The furniture was divided between Almira Moon and Mary Miller, and every thing was settled as directed in the will. This acount of the divission of the estate I had kept in a book by its-self in which also were deposted the receipts for every-thing I had paid out and also evry thing I received. Now by some unacountable accident I have lost this account and the receipts for which reason I have not heretofore settled with the court and I therefore make this statement and ask the court to discharg me as admistrator James Griswold Subscribed and sworn to before me this 5th day of February 1908.
