She was one of those motherly women, who devoted her life to serving others. She loved everyone and was greatly beloved by all who knew her. The story of her life is: Savilla Walters, daughter of Solomon and Delilah Walters was born in Union Township, Center County, Pa., April 19th, 1858. After a few weeks of sickness and suffering she slipped quietly and peacefully away into the life beyond at the McKale farm home near Longford, Kansas, May 26th, 1932. Her age being 74 years, one month and seven days. Between those two dates she fulfilled a useful mission. When but three years of age her parents moved the family to Fulton County, Indiana. Here her mother died in 1969, and the father with his broken family moved at once to St. Joseph County, Mich. At Nottawa, St. Joseph County, Mich. Feb. 5th, 1875, Miss Savilla Walters became the bride of Chas. McKale and in June 1878 Chas. McKale with his young wife, and the Walters family moved to Kansas, the McKales locating in the Oak Hill community. For over 45 years Mr. and Mrs. Chas. McKale have lived on the present home farm, sharing with others the ups and downs, the joys and sorrows of community building and changing conditions. There were seven children born to this union. Two sons and five daughters. Two of the daughters slipping away into the spirit world in their infancy. Mrs. McKale was soundly converted under the labors of Rev. M.B. Young of Clay Circuit of the Evangelical Church. She, with her husband became a member of the Plesant Valley Class but later transferred their membership to the Longford church. Here Mrs. McKale maintained her membership to the last. To the limit of her strength and opportunity Mrs. McKale was an active Christian worker and witness. Many were helped and directed into and in the Christian life by her helpful counsel and leadership. She leaves to mourn her going her beloved, life-long companion, Chas. McKale; her two sons, William McKale of Abilene, Kansas, and Fred McKale of the home community; three daughters, Mrs. Lillie Mayor of Oak Hill; Mrs. Ida Walters of Vining, Kansas; and Mrs. Grace Woodhams of Rocky Ford, Colo,; two full brothers, Joseph Walters of Clay Center, Kansas and Lee Walters of Wakefield, Kansas; one full sister, Mrs. Katie Stuck of Abilene, Kansas; two half brothers, Henry and David Walters and one half sister, Mrs. Elmira Berger all of Abilene, Kansas; six nephews and six nieces, twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren besides a very great number of old friends and neighbors, who loved her for the goodness and faithfulness of her life. It is a matter of special note that Mrs. McKale was a very great lover of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She has gone but not forgotten. Hers is the great joy of "Home going." Ours to wait and watch and be ready. Funeral services were held at the Oak Hill Presbyterian church Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, following a brief prayer at the home. Rev. H.T. Wright was assisted by Rev. E.H. Bleam in conducting the service. Appropriate music was furnished by the choir. The pall bearers were: Frank Fox, Will Wedd, J.W. Goheen, W.J. Smith, George Clark and J. H. Fulkner. Burial was made in the Pleasant Valley cemetery. Many long time friends came to pay final tribute and the floral offerings were beautiful.
