Description	:	Sebastian was born in Germany, the son of Lorenz and Birgitta Zepf. He came to America at the age of 22 and located at Madison, Indiana. The following year he enlisted as a teamster for the Union Army during the Civil War. Illness terminated his war service. He traveled by ox team with a faithful dog which later proved a valuable safeguard against Indians. In 1871 he came to Knox county, Nebraska, locating first north of where Bazile Mills was later located. He, then, homesteaded 160 acres several miles south. Yankton and West Point were the nearest railroad towns, and it was from one of those points that he hauled lumber by ox team to build the first frame building in Knox county. This he operated as a trading post. His store became a center of activity in the new community. By virtue of his prominence in the settlement he was elected and served as justice of the peace for several years. ...Creighton's 60th Anniversary Edition, 1934 "The first frame building in Knox county was constructed by my father, the late Sebastian Zepf. Dad built it to operate a store, which he ran until the grasshoppers took over the county. The store had groceries, drugs, clothing and even did some blacksmithing and some carpentry.
