Description	:	Selma was born in the home of her parents in Home City. She was the first of five children. Her brothers are Henry, Walter and Arnold and her sister, Zena. She was the daughter of Ernst William and Louisa Anna "Kramme" Zimmerling. She was sent to St. Joseph Missouri for seamstress schooling after caring for her sister, Zena while her parents worked the farm. She left school around 8th grade to care for her sister. Her brothers are Henry, Walter and Arnold and her sister, Zena. She was the daughter of Ernst William and Louisa Anna "Kramme" Zimmerling. She was sent to St. Joseph Missouri for seamstress schooling after caring for her sister, Zena while her parents worked the farm. She left school around 8th grade to care for her sister. There she met her future husband Artis Raymond Nelson, who was an iron worker building a bridge in St. Joseph. They married in her parent's home and later settled in Kansas City, Missouri. Selma had two daughters, Betty Louise Nelson May who lived in the Kansas City area the rest of her life, having died in 2018, and Doris Lee Nelson Blythe Moore who lived her adult life in Odessa, Texas until her death in 1994. After Selma's divorce and after her children married and moved, she returned to Home, Kansas and started a little restaurant in Home, Kansas. She lived in an apartment above the restaurant and often walked to her parents' home a mile away to visit. She never learned to drive a car, saying it was too dangerous. She had an illness that left her arms unable to extend above her shoulders. She shut down the restaurant and moved in with her parents. She cared for her parents until their death. Afterwards she moved in with her mother's sister(Anna) and cared for her until her death. She then purchased the home of her late Aunt and stayed there the reminder of her days. Selma often spent the winters at her daughter, Betty, home in Raytown, Missouri and most all of the holidays. She visited Doris in Texas but was not able to make the trip very often. Selma went with her oldest daughter and son-in-law and their two children on a 4 week vacation in 1962 covering Texas, New Mexico, Mexico, California, Nevada, Montana, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, South Dakota, and finally Kansas and Missouri. They managed to see Carl's Bad Caverns, San Diego, LA Disneyland, Marine world, San Francisco, Yosemite NP, Yellowstone NP, Salt Lake City, Pike's Peak, Mount Rushmore to name only a few of their sightseeing adventures. Selma said it was the vacation to end all vacations. Selma was a master seamstress and marvelous cook. She was known for her Apple Pie and homemade Cinnamon Rolls. She was also skilled at crochet and made crocheted bedspreads, tablecloths, and dollies. She made all of her children's clothes and most of her first granddaughter's (Cheryl) clothes, and ended her sewing for her granddaughter by making her wedding dress. She also made each of her grandchildren a quilt as a present for their wedding. She is very much missed by her granddaughter, Cheryl May Attaway!
