He was engaged in the lumber business in the east but emigrated to the west in 1835, coming acorss the lake to Detroit and thence by wagons in to Homer township, Calhoun Co Michigan, where he took up eighty acres of land, located on section 10. There after he knew no other home but this which was then covered with a dense growth of timber, the balance of his life being spent in the cultivation and imnprovement of his prperty. With the help of his son, Thomas E., who was born in New York state and came west with his parents at the age of eight yrs, he succeeded in clearing the greater part of the land and making it porductive. His death occured in this locality and he is interred in the old cemetery in Homer. Thomas E Elow grew to manhood upon his father's farm, receiving his education in the primitive schools of this county. After the mangement of the farm passed into his hands, he replaced the old log house which had sheltered the family for so many years with a new frame sturcture and added in other ways to the improvement of the property, and by industry and energy was enabled to add one hundred acres to the farm left him by his father. He married Mary Delia Champion, also a native of eastern NY and she is still living in the village of Homer, while her husband died November 4th, 1900, at the age of seventy three years and is also buried in the Fisher Cemetery.. He was a Democrat politically and held various offices in the twonship, never shirking a public duty. Both himself and wife were members of the Methodist Episcopal church and both were active in religious work, he acting as steward of the church for many years. They were the parents of two children, namely: Eddy L who died at the age of sixteen yrs and Seymour C the personal subject of this review. Seymour C Eslow was born in Homer Twp Calhoun Co, Michigan July 4, 1868, and was reared on the farm upon which the boyhood of his father was spent, and like him also attending the district schools of the township, which were, how ever, greatly improved as time passed. His additional privileges consisted of a course at the Homer Albion College, where he attended for four yrs. Upon leaving that institution he secured the school in his home distric and taught there the following year, after which he engaged in farming, renting the old home farm. Upon the death of his father he assumed charge of the home farm, which he has since capably managed. In additon to his farming interests he has always been a man of note in his home township, as a Democrat taking an active part in the political life of the community. In 1897 he was elected to the office of county surveyor, serving one year, and in 1902 he was elected supervisor of Homer Twp , the only Democrat on the ticket elected to offiice that yr, a fact which speaks eloquently of the esteem which he accorded Mr. Eslow. The marriage of Mr Eslow united him with Miss Anna L Dickey, a daughter of William Henry and Lucinda (Barton) Dickey, natives respectively of Manchester and Marshall Mi, Mrs Dickey being a daughter of William S and Louisa (Olds) Barton. In religious affiliations both Mr and Mrs Eslow are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Homer. Obituary Marshall (MI) Evening Chronicle Tuesday, May 29, 1945 Prominent Homer Man Passes On Seymour Eslow Died Suddenly Last Night Seymour C. Eslow, 76, a lifelong resident of Homer, and well-known throughout the county, suffered a heart attack at his home Monday evening at 11:30 o'clock and died a few minutes afterward. He was born in Homer, July 4, 1868, the son of Thomas and Delia Eslow. He attended Albion college and lived on a farm east of Homer, which he still owns, for a few years. Later, Mr. Eslow moved to Homer village, where he was always active in civil affairs. He was postmaster from 1912 to 1923; served as village president for a while, and had held various township offices. Mr. Eslow was one of the prominent Democrats of Calhoun county and was always working the interest of his party. At the time of his death he was a township committee man of the Triple-A, and had attended a Triple-A meeting in Marshall last evening. He was a member of the Methodist church and of various local organizations. He was married to Myrtle Keifer, January 27, 1910, and they had always lived in Homer. Besides his wife, Mr. Eslow is survived by many cousins and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held at the Westbrook chapel, Thursday, at 2:00 o'clock, with the Rev. W. W. Slee, of Coldwater, a former Homer pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery. Marshall (MI) Evening Chronicle Saturday, June 2, 1945 Homer Funeral Services Funeral services for Seymour C. Eslow, age 76, who died Monday night following a heart attack at his home, were held at the Westbrook Chapel Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, with the Rev. W. W. Slee of Coldwater officiating, assisted by Rev. A. M. Lott. Burial was in Fairview cemetery. The large concourse of friends attending the funeral showed the high esteem in which Mr. Eslow as held. Surviving besides his wife, Myrtle, are many cousins. Casket bearers included L. M. Wade, Frank Benham, R. B. Kibbie, Arthur Smith, L. S. Dye and A. E.
