Description	:	Don was a prisoner of was in WWII for 17 months in Stalag 17. He survived. Was in Army Corps of Engineers in Korean war where he was taken prisoner again. This time he did not survive the hunger and disease. A friend was able to give him a separate grave and he was sent back home to be buried in the family plot in Denison, Iowa. He survived. Was in Army Corps of Engineers in Korean war where he was taken prisoner again. This time he did not survive the hunger and disease. A friend was able to give him a separate grave and he was sent back home to be buried in the family plot in Denison, Iowa. His son Keith was only 3 when his dad left for Korea. Don's death was in a North Korean Prison Camp near the Yalu River. Was in Second Div. Engineers. His body was returned to USA 4 yrs after his death. He had previously been in World War II, a Army Air Corp turret gunner in a large plane. His plane was shot down over Germany, the pilot tried to glide back over English channel to England but could not make it so landed in the channel and the Germans got to them before the English did and he was in a Ger man Prisoner of War camp for one year, in the famous Stalag #17 camp. He was not badly treated in the German camp, though the prisoners were hungry, as were the Germans, too. But he was badly treated in the North Korean camp. After he was liberated by the Allies from his German camp he went with the American soldiers and was with them when they liberated the famous and terrible Auschwitz Concentration Camp in Poland.∼Sergeant First Class Jones was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 8th Air Force and taken Prisoner of War for thirteen months. In Korea, he was member of the 2nd Engineer Combat Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy near Kunu-ri, North Korea on November 30, 1950 and died while a prisoner of malnutrition on June 30, 1951. Sergeant First Class Jones was awarded the Prisoner of War Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean War Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
