Description	:	Aaron was the son of Jonas Jackson and Martha Hyde. On Mar 13, 1777 he enlisted in the 10th MA Regiment for 3 years -- Promoted to Sergeant on July 16, 1777. Transferred to Capt Wolcut's company on April 1, 1779. He was honorably discharged March 14, 1780. (The Cole Family of Stark states that Aaron marched with his brothers Jonas and David to Lexington on Apr 19, 1775, and served substantially throughout the Revolution. [It is unknown if this was supposed to be 1777 instead of 1775]). On Sep 15, 1878 in Sutton, MA he married Sarah Cole, daughter of Jonathan Cole and Elizabeth Crowninshield. Their children were Sarah, Aaron Jr, Elizabeth "Betsey", Chloe, Moses, Jonas, Isaac, and Lois. Aaron was the first man to clear land on what was called Percy Plain. For his service in the Revolutionary War he received a grant of two lots of land in Percy. In 1819 Aaron received his Revolutionary War pension, but only for one or two months. Then he was stricken from the pension records (for having too much property). Apparently some neighbor reported false statements to the pension department because of a feud they had going on or something and this got his pension stopped. There is a document that states he was inscribed to the pension roll on Jun 23, 1819 (to receive $8 a month). On Sep 27, 1819 a pension certificate was issued, stating that he was to be paid arrears to Sep 4th $19.20 and 6 months to Mar 4, 1820 $48.00 for a total of $67.20. This certificate was sent to Agent Samuel Pearson Esq. in Lancaster, NH. It is assumed that he did receive this one and only payment before he was banned from ever applying for pension again. In 1821 and 1824 petitions were signed by every well-to-do man in town and lawyers fought for him to get his pension reinstated because he was infirm and destitute. In 1824 he went to court and provided a complete inventory of his possessions to show his total worth was $96.00, and that he was infirm with a wife and two children ages 11 and 13 (who were not old enough to contribute to their maintenance). That would have been son Isaac and daughter Chloe. Per his wife's widow's pension files it doesn't appear that he was ever reinstated to the pension rolls. Sarah had to continually fight for the Widow's Pension. She was put on the pension roll in 1836 (to be paid $120 per year). In 1838 there was again a pension form stating she was to be paid $120 per year. She applied again in 1840. In Jan 1841 another pension form was issued ordering that she be paid $600 in arrears for thru Mar 4, 1841. This shows that until this point she had never received her pension as the $600 in arrears was for the years 1836-1841. In 1842 she applied again on the law passed in 1841. In Jul 19, 1843 at the age of 74, she again applied on the law passed in Mar 3, 1843, still fighting to get her Widow's Pension. She was inscribed on the pension roll, payment to commence on Mar 4, 1843. A certificate of pension was sent to Justice Joshua Marshall of Stratford, NH for Sarah on Nov 29, 1843. It would seem that would mean she did receive more of the $120 a year pension, but there is no record as to whether she ever actually received it. This was the last record of Sarah that I have been able to find. We only know she died some time after this 1843 date. This was horrible treatment of a man who gave three years of his life to fight for our freedom. I can not figure out what a man's possessions or total worth has to do with whether he receives a pension for serving our country or not. Age: 69yrs Note: IF he originally had a headstone it is no longer in this cemetery (Blake). Many of the early graves here were only marked with fieldstones. All the graves from Blake Cemetery were moved to Emerson Cemetery in 2021.
