His comrades assembled in large number to pay final tribute to one who had served his country often, and well, Service Record According to the records in the office of the Adjutant General, at Des Moines, Frank enlisted April 26, 1898 in Co. F 1st Inf. Iowa N. G., Tipton; was transferred to the 49th Infantry June 2, 1898; mustered same date; mustered out May 13, 1899, at Savannah, Georgia. Enlisted Sept. 25, 1899 in Co. "F" 49th Inf. Iowa N. G.; appointed sergeant; honorably discharged March 21, 1902 on account of removal from station. Enlisted May 20, 1902, in Co. "F" 49th Inf. Iowa N. G.; honorably discharged May 20, 1905 as sergeant on account of expiration of term of service. Enlisted June 20, 1916, in Machine Gun Co. 1st Inf. Iowa N. G. and mustered into U. S. service June 26, 1916; mustered out of U. S. service Jan. 15, 1917; appointed mess sergeant April 5, 1917. Machine Gun Co. 1st Inf. changed to Machine Gun Co. 133rd Inf. Served overseas from October 13, 1918, to April 18, 1919. Honorably discharge April 28, 1918, on demobilization. Obituary Frank E. Brown, eldest son of a family of four children born to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brown, was born six miles north of Tipton, Ia., in what is known as Red Oak Grove neighborhood, November 6, 1878, and passed away at the home of his stepmother, Mrs. Charles Brown, January 28, 1935, at the age of 56 years. After the death of his mother, the family moved to Tipton where Frank grew to manhood. He attended the Tipton schools. In 1898 he answered his country's call and went with Co. F 49th Iowa to the Spanish-American war serving in Cuba. He was mustered out of this service May 13, 1899, at Savannah, Georgia, returning to Tipton where he took up the plumbing business with his father. At the call to arms he again entered the service going to the Mexican border and serving until the end of the war. Again at the beginning of the World War he responded to the call and served through the war with service overseas and was mustered out on the demobilization of the army. He was united in marriage to Nora J. Perry on June 10, 1906, and to this union one daughter was born. Left to mourn his passing are his daughter, Mrs. Ralph Milliman, of Chicago; his step-mother, Mrs. Chas. Brown, of Tipton; his brothers, Dr. William Brown of Cedar Rapids, Ia. and John of Philadelphia, Penn.; and his sister Mrs. Joe E. Eaton of Chalfont, Penn., besides a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in Tipton, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. H. N. Poston officiating. The services at the grave were under auspices of the American Legion Post. Burial was made at the Masonic cemetery west of Tipton. Contributor: daisy (48425018) •
