Description	:	James Benjamin Cowan, 409 Spruce Street, president of Plasteel Products Co., Washington, died at noon, Saturday, July 17, 1965, from a heart attack in the Canonsburg General Hospital. He was born in Canonsburg, August 24, 1895, a son of Frank and Martha Cowan. He was raised after the early death of his parents by his grandfather, Thomas Cowan. He was a 1915 graduate of Canonsburg High School and was employed at the Standard Tin Plate Company. He fought overseas in World War I serving as sergeant for two years. Read More	James Benjamin Cowan, 409 Spruce Street, president of Plasteel Products Co., Washington, died at noon, Saturday, July 17, 1965, from a heart attack in the Canonsburg General Hospital. He was born in Canonsburg, August 24, 1895, a son of Frank and Martha Cowan. He was raised after the early death of his parents by his grandfather, Thomas Cowan. He was a 1915 graduate of Canonsburg High School and was employed at the Standard Tin Plate Company. He fought overseas in World War I serving as sergeant for two years. He returned to Standard Tin Plate Company following the war and was assistant to D. B. Geeseman, general manager. For the past 21 years, he has been with the Plasteel products Company, Washington. He was also president of the Saranac Corporation. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 297, F. and A. M. and Knight Templars, was past president of the Washington-Greene County Caravan II, and was a member of the Pittsburgh Shrine. Mr. Cowan was a lifetime member of the First Methodist Church. He was active in civic affairs as school director in Canonsburg for 12 years, board member of Western State School and Hospital, and president of the Canon-McMillan School Joint Authority He was serving on the County Welfare Board and the Canonsburg Zoning Board at the time of his death. He is past commander of the Canonsburg American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Sue Arbaugh Cowan, and two sisters, Mrs. A. E. Archer, Baytown, Texas, and Mrs. Schrader McMillan, Canonsburg.
